This is a post that is not in a category that I usually would have at a blog such as this but Rich’s story has led me to add fundraising and fundraisers as categories in this blog.
Rich Strayer is a friend of mine and my upline in one of my network marketing companies. I have learned a lot from Rich over the years about building an online business. I have recently received the following information from Rich about a disease that he was diagnosed with earlier this year.
WHAT IS ALS?
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rapidly progressive, invariably fatal neurological disease that attacks the nerve cells (neurons) responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. It is not contagious.
Eventually, all muscles under voluntary control are affected, and patients lose their strength and the ability to move their arms, legs, and body. When muscles in the diaphragm and chest wall fail, patients lose the ability to breathe without ventilatory support. Most people with ALS die from respiratory failure, usually within 3 to 5 years from the onset of symptoms. However, about 10 percent of ALS patients survive for 10 or more years.
Because ALS affects only motor neurons, the disease does not impair a person’s mind, personality, intelligence, or memory. Nor does it affect a person’s ability to see, smell, taste, hear, or recognize touch.
Rich was diagnosed with ALS in January this year. Please continue to pray for us as we walk this journey. The chapter provides several support services and equipment through a loan closet. They have provided us a wheelchair, recliner lift chair and other equipment at no cost.
